SNMC Statement on New Zealand Incident

South Nepean Muslim Community is greatly shocked, and heartbroken by the terrorist hate crime that took place in the two Mosques in New Zealand. We strongly condemn this despicable and cowardly act that resulted in the massacre of 49 people and injured many more.

We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims, the New Zealand Muslim community, and all of New Zealand during this awful time. We are appalled by the occurrence of this act at a house of worship and are glad that the New Zealand Law Enforcement Agencies have captured the suspected terrorists and taking appropriate actions against them.

Many other Houses of Worship have faced similar depraved acts, including synagogues and temples, and we strongly believe that it is time to stand up against those who seek to divide our nation through these acts.

SNMC appreciates the support from our fellow Canadians, Government Officials, Law Enforcement Agencies, Neighbours and leaders of other faiths, who have reached out to us to convey solidarity.
