SNMC welcomes everyone who would like to know about SNMC’s financial report and annual general report and to meet new members of the board of directors.
Please note that only active SNMC members are eligible to vote for new members of the board of directors.
To be an active member one must have donated at least $240 in 2017 AND volunteered for at least 100 hours in the same year.

In this article, I like to highlight the progress of Ottawa- Gatineau Muslims identity and visibility from 1996 to 2018.
Compared to 1996, Muslims are well organized as institutions, programs, and activities today. In 2016, Muslims under UMO-OG (United Muslim Organizations -Ottawa- Gatineau) had a reception in Parliament with 20 elected federal Muslim MPs and half a dozen federal ministers. In return, 30 federal MPs Ramadan hosted a multicultural iftar event for over 600 Muslims in parliament in the same year. Also, Muslims under UMO-OG organized the ILEAD (Islam Learn Engage Achieve and Develop) conference with 3,000 attendees.
Politicians at all levels attended events organized by different Muslim organizations and masjids; indicating growing influence of Muslims in politics and elections.
In addition, Halal food items are available in all major mainstream groceries and hijab-clad Muslim women are visible in workplaces, shops, bus, trains, schools, colleges, and universities. Further, private, high tech, business, govt institutions, and airports are starting to provide Muslim praying places.
Abū ʻAbdillāh Muḥammad ibn Yazīd Ibn Mājah was a scholar of hadith of Persian[1] origin. He compiled the list of Sunni Islam‘s six canonical hadith collections, Sunan Ibn Mājah.
Ibn Mājah was born in Qazwin, the modern-day Iranian province of Qazvin, in 824 CE/209 AH.
The Sunan IbnBaza consists 4,000 aḥādīth in 32 books divided into 1,500 chapters.

| Imam Zijad’s Corner: Reminders about Importance of Communication in Islam
Islam textual references remind us of a number of important aspects related to the concept of communication and ways we communicate with others in all our relationships. First of all, Muslims must always remember, without a doubt, that they are servants of Allah, created by Him, and given the ability to communicate intelligently: Allah tells us in the Qur’an, “Allah, Most Gracious! It is He who taught the Qur’an; He has created man; He has taught him speech (and has given him intelligence).” (55:1-4) Secondly, we also must remind ourselves often that we will account for every good and bad thing that we say. We will be rewarded for our good words, and we will be reprimanded for every bad word that we say. Almighty Allah cautions us: “Not a word does he/she utter, but there is a watcher by him/her ready (to record it).” (50:18) Further, the Quran directs its followers towards effective communication skills and that they, for their own sake and the sake of others, need to apply some of these skills in their lives. a. “Invite people to the way of your Lord with wisdom and counsel. And argue with them in the best of manners.” (16:125) b. “So (Prophet) it is through mercy from Allah that you are gentle to them. Had you been rough and hard-hearted they would have from around you (will not listen to you). So, pardon them and seek forgiveness for them.” (3:159) c. “Good and evil are not equal. Repel evil with what is best and you will see the one you had mutual enmity with him will turn as if he were a close friend.” (41:34) |
Likewise, the Messenger (pbuh) warned us about the way we use our tongue. It was reported that Sufyan b. Abdullah asked the Messenger (pbuh): O Messenger of Allah, what do you fear most for me? Thereupon he (Muhammad) took hold of his tongue and said “this.” (Tirmithi)

Almighty God reminds us in the Qur’an:
ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ ۖ وَجَادِلْهُم بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guide).” (An Nahl 16:125)
God commands us to pardon, overlook and forgive our friends, family members, relatives, neighbours, and coworkers!
