Ramadan (1440 – 2019) Announcement

All praise is for Allah Almighty. May the peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, the faithful companions, and those who follow them.

Based on the moon sighting confirmation consistent with the global moon sighting criterion, the Council hereby declares that the first of Ramadan will be on Monday, May 6, 2019. Accordingly, Taraweeh prayers will begin tonight, Sunday, May 5, 2019, insha-Allah.    The Council of Imams of Ottawa-Gatineau extends its congratulations and best wishes to all Canadians and Muslim communities across Canada upon the arrival of this blessed month. We hope that our fasting and good deeds will be accepted and well-received by Allah Almighty. We call upon all Canadians and Muslims to help one another in the act of piety and righteousness, unite on the truth, and forsake all that could lead to conflicts and divisions. We ask Allah (S) to alleviate difficulties of the victims of all-natural disasters and in particular the flood victims of the Ottawa-Gatineau and Eastern Canadian regions.   Let us seize this opportunity and earn the pleasure of our Creator, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’aala.
