Good Samaritan Inter-Faith Food Drive – May 11th, 12th and 13th

Good Samaritan Inter-Faith Food Drive – May 11th, 12th and 13th:

As Salamu ‘Alaikum respected sisters and brothers:

A group of community leaders (including religious leaders) started Good Samaritan Inter-Faith Food Drive initiative and we feel that we need to extend the circle of doing good and living our faith in action by caring about the needy in the city!

Please join us for this important initiative by donating non-perishable foods on May 11th (Friday) at your local Masjid (for example at SNMC) or before that and then we would deliver it to the OMA Masjid on May 11th, 12th or 13th as explained below. You may directly deliver it to the OMA Masjid on the mentioned days/times.

We ALL can do much more to touch the lives of those who do NOT have enough food on the table. This initiative is one of the ways of helping those in need.

Again, this year, GoodSamaritans invite all Ottawa believers and others to join us in an Inter-Faith Food Drive to feed the poor in our community and show solidarity within our interfaith community.

Like last year, bring some non-perishable food to your place of worship this Mother’s Day weekend as you go to pray. We are asking the place of worship to announce the food drive several times and deliver the food donations to the Ottawa Mosque parking lot, where volunteers will load it onto a truck and deliver it to the Ottawa Food Bank.

Through the second annual GoodSamaritans Inter-Faith Food Drive, religions are working together cooperatively for the public good. Beyond the issues arising in these troubling times, this inter-faith, cooperative activity highlights the value religious believers bring to the civic life of our community, as engaged citizens committed to what Rev. Martin Luther King called the “Beloved Community”, social justice and caring for the most vulnerable among us.

Individuals could deliver the food to their places of worship and then volunteers in Synagogues, Churches and Mosques will deliver the food donations to our central drop-off point at the Ottawa Mosque, 251 Northwestern Avenue @ Scott street,
