Imam Dr Zijad’s Corner: The Hajj is the Season of Awakening of the Millat of Muhammad (S)

The Hajj is the Season of Awakening of the Millat of Muhammad (S)

The season of Hajj is the period of liveliness and awakening in the entire world inspiring spectacle of unity among all Muslims – Millat of Muhammad (S).

Just imagine the scene of different people coming from north and south and west and east, belonging to countless communities and countries that are flocking to one center through a thousand and one routes.

Their features are different, their colors are different, their languages are different but on reaching a demarcated borderline near the Center (Miqat) all remove their national dresses and everybody without exception puts on a simple, two white garments uniform of one single design (Ihram).

It can easily be noticed that the people from thousands of communities all over the world are one single party – party of Allah.

Such attitude of believers bears the sign of obedience and servitude to the Only, One Creator – Almighty Allah. Believers are strung in one cord of loyalty and are marching towards one capital to respond on Creator call.

When these uniformed faithful individuals move ahead of Miqat, the same one slogan loudly issues forth from their mouth.

Their spoken languages are different but the slogan of all is one, the same: Labbayka llahumma Labbayk. Labbayka La Sharika Laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda Wan Ni’mata Laka Wal Mulk La Sharika Lak – Here I am at your service, O my Lord. My humble submission is only to You, and I am here submitting to You, the One Who does not have a partner for no one is worthy of worship except You. You are the Only One Who deserves every praise. You are the only One Who has all power, so help me O Allah that I benefit from all the blessings that You have bestowed on humankind. You have full power over everything and You do not have any partner.”

The assembly of common people of all nations, with a clear heart, with good manners and pure ideas, with affection and sincerity, with mental and spiritual affinity, with unity of thoughts, deeds and aims, always in the same place and every year, is not available anywhere except in Islam. That assembly is Hajj.

Indeed, when Allah has ordered Hajj to the Muslims, He wanted from Muslims that they be one Ummah, its members cooperating with one another, helping one another, feeling and caring about one another, as one body does. The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (S) said: “The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of a body; when one limb of it aches, the whole body aches due to fever and sleeplessness.”                {Muslim)

In another Hadith, the Messenger of Allah specified some of the things which Muslims should do or avoid when they deal with other Muslims. He (S) said: “Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the greatest falsehood. Do not try to find faults with each other, do not spy on one another, do not vie with one another, do not envy one another, do not be angry with one another, do not turn away from one another, and be servants of Allah, brothers to one another, as you have been ordered. A Muslim is a brother of a Muslim – he does him no wrong, nor does he let him down; nor does he despise him. Fear of Allah is here, fear of Allah is here,” and he pointed to his chest. For every Muslim is sacred to another – his blood, his honor and his property. Allah does not look at your bodies or your forms, or your deeds, but looks at your hearts.”               {Bukhari, Muslim}

In conclusion, Muslims at this time are in extremely difficult conditions all across the globe, more than in any time before and for that reason they are called to understand the concept of Muslim brotherhood/sisterhood and their awakening especially during this great season of Hajj – the season of blessings and peace.
