SNMC welcomes everyone who would like to know about SNMC’s financial report and annual general report and to meet new members of the board of directors.
Please note that only active SNMC members are eligible to vote for new members of the board of directors.
To be an active member one must have donated at least $240 in 2017 AND volunteered for at least 100 hours in the same year.

Come see an entertaining reptile show with the whole family!
This hour-long presentation includes 8-10 animals featuring snakes, lizards, turtles, tortoises, amphibians, and invertebrates.

Tickets are $5/each and they include admission fee, snacks, and a guaranteed amazing time! Tickets can be purchased at the SNMC office, and at our weekly Sunday kids event.
Kids event:
Every Sunday the gym will be open with various fun activities for kids ages 5-8! Everyone is welcome! We will have arts and crafts, sports, cooking, etc.!
Girls Soccer:
Looking for a fun place to spend your Sunday evenings? The gym is open for girls 9-14 to come out and enjoy a game of soccer, along with activities, pizza, and more!

Muslims under UMO-OG (United Muslim Organizations -Ottawa- Gatineau) started the I.LEAD (Islam Learn Engage Achieve and Develop) conference with 3,000 attendees in 2013. In 2016, Government Public Servants at all levels attended the ILEAD event.
This year, I.LEAD will be commenced on March 17th, 2018.

Abū `Abd ar-Raḥmān Aḥmad ibn Shu`ayb ibn Alī ibn Sīnān al-Nasā’ī, was a scholar of hadith of Persian the city of Nasa in Turkmenistan. He compiled the last of six hadith collections of Sunni Muslims Al-Nasā’ī (214 – 303 AH; c. 829 – 915 CE., It contains roughly 5700 hadith (with repetitions) in 52 books. He also wrote 15 other books, 6 dealing with the science of hadith.
Nafi’ narrated that ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar used to say:
“When the Muslims arrived in Al-Madinah they used to gather and try to figure out the time for prayer, and no one gave the call to prayer. One day they spoke about that; some of them said: ‘Let us use a bell like the Christians do;’ others said, ‘No, a horn like the Jews have.’ ‘Umar, may, Allah be pleased with him, said: ‘Why don’t you send a man to announce the time of prayer?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘O Bilal, get up and give the call to prayer.'” Al-Nasai

WHAT: Lecture/ Discussion: Racism is un-Islamic WHEN: Friday, February 9th after ‘Isha prayer (8:15 pm SHARP) WHO/SPEAKER: Imam Dr. Zijad Delic WHERE: SNMC Masjid/Mosque According to the Islamic references as well as pure logic, Islam stands against all forms of racism and bigotry. Racism is defined as the belief that one ethnicity is superior to another, or one color of skin is superior to another, or the people of one country are superior to another. Such repulsive beliefs are the traits of pre-Islamic ignorance (al-jahiliyyah). As Muslims, people of faith in One God, we believe that all people are born equal in the sight of Allah and the only characteristic that makes someone superior to another is righteousness (al-taqwa). All are welcome for this frank discussion on the topic of an evil that still lives in the community of believers. |
| NOT Rejoicing Over People’s Troubles
Reported by Wasila bin al-Asqa’i (r) that Muhammad (S) said: “Do not rejoice over the troubles of your brother, lest God might have mercy on him and involve you in this trouble.” (Tirmizi) Transliteration: “La Tuzhirish Shamatata Li Akhika; Fa Yarhamahullahu Wa Yabtaliyak.” Note: Rejoicing over anyone’s trouble is indecent according to Islam. For a believer, such behavior would be utterly unacceptable. Such rejoicing indicates a substandard attitude and may earn the displeasure of God. Moreover, God may turn the situation around and place the person rejoicing in a similar situation. A believer’s conduct toward others–Muslims or non-Muslims–can be only one way: rejoice over others’ happiness and feel sorrow when others are sad or troubled. That is a sublime teaching of Islam. The aspect of Muslim personality that is emphasized here also reinforces another general point. Islam is not merely a matter of form and legal codes. For example, a person may offer Salat most meticulously but may not strive to stay clear of indecency (Fahisha) and vices (Munkar). There is no legal code to prosecute such a person who simply does not benefit from the value system of Islam. Similarly, a Muslim is not subject to a penal code for rejoicing over other people’s troubles. He cannot, however, avoid God’s judgment on such conduct. |
