Ottawa Tornado Brought Challenges and Opportunities
Despite no electricity, SNMC was able to prepare 350 Burgers /Hotdogs and distribute them to neighbors on Sunday September 23rd. Also, in coordination with other UMO-OG organizations, SNMC with other Muslim organizations distributed 650 packets of hot dinner to seniors and new immigrants in three locations in Ottawa; 33 Banner Road off Green Bank and Ottawa Downtown, and Gatineau.
In the absence of power, Ottawans believed themselves and showed compassion to friends and neighbours with food, water, hot drinks and shelter and drove nicely with no traffic light and police.
Al-Hamdu Lillah, SNMC, since the birth in 1998, maintains a separate community account with Zakat and Sadaqa to provide financial assistance to needy families, students in local and victims of calamities overseas through registered local charities.
Every year with your support, donation and volunteering efforts, SNMC donates over $200, 000 for helping needy families, giving scholarships and supporting local and overseas calamities.

The Muslim believer’s attitude towards calamities
Calamities and disasters are a test, and they are a sign of Allaah’s love for a person because they are like medicine: even though it is bitter, despite its bitterness you give it to the one whom you love – and for Allaah is the highest description. In the saheeh hadeeth it says: “The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allaah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2396) and Ibn Maajah (4031); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.
Remember the words of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affairs are all good, and this applies to no one but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is thankful for it and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience and that is good for him.” (Narrated by Muslim, 2999).
So if calamity befalls a Muslim, he must say Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji’oon (Verily to Allah we belong and unto Him is our return), and say the du’aa’s that have been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
How wonderful are those moments in which a person turns to his Lord and knows that He alone is the One Who grants relief from distress. How great is the relief when it comes after hardship. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“but give glad tidings to As‑ Saabiroon (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: ‘Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.’
Adult Quran Recitation Group Halaqa on Sundays Fajr, Zuhr, and Maghrib
Allah (swt) stated
وَرَتِّلِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَرۡتِيلاً (٤)
And recite the Qur’ân in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style (4)
Also, Prophet (PUB) stated, the best among you is the one who learns and teaches the Quran.
SNMC runs Adult Group Quran Halaqa on Sundays.
After Fajr led by Sk Dr. Ahmed Ghanmi, After Zuhr by Sk Dr. Atif Kabir, Br. Hossam and Hafiz Anas, and after Maghrib with Br Hussain Ali, Hafiz Waseem and Sk Yaseen
Each group will have a leader with 5-10 persons and for 15 to 30 minutes.
Let us join these halaqas and improve our Quran recitation.

Imam Zijad’s Corner: PRACTICING KINDNESS
| Reported by ‘Aishah (r) that Muhammad (S) said: “God is Kind and likes kindness in all things.” (Bukhari, Muslim & Ibn Majah)
Transliteration: “Innallaha Rafiq; Yuhibbur Rifqa Fil Amri Kullihi.” Note: Mercy, compassion, kindness all emanate from God and these constitute His supreme attributes. Rifq (kindness) is related to a very special set of attributes of God that include Most Compassionate (Ar Rahman) and Most Merciful (Ar Rahim) by which He wants us to remember Him most. Chapters in the Qur’an begin with the affirmation of these attributes and Muslims are instructed by Muhammad (s) to invoke God’s name with these attributes in the beginning of any action in their lives. These attributes of God are not in exclusion of His other attributes, but at the core of the relationship between God and His creation are these attributes of Kindness, Compassion and Mercy. When believers develop their appreciation of this primary character of Creator-creation relationship, an extraordinary transformation of human personality takes place. Thus, kindness is the sweetest and ineffaceable dimension of a believer’s personality and should dominate a Muslim’s way of life. Among all those aspects of human personality that can really make a society loving, harmonious, and strong, kindness and compassion rank supreme. |

Weekly Verse
Almighty Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
| إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا |
We only feed you for the sake of God, and we desire nothing in return from you, not even a word of thanks’’” (Al Insaan — 76:9).
